poor.
Slowly scrolling past
cries for help,
& broken relationships,
amidst things we “need”.

Struggles remembered,
never to be forgotten by technology.
Inches away from our face.

Every answer follows in ads.
Each app points to a way.
Polls, opinions,
statements true or false,
pull us off course.
Slowly it creeps in, then
faster,
faster,
faster,
dissatisfied,
numbed to images of heartbreak, war, and politics.

detached,
indifferent,
deadened.
Scroll on.
We begin to believe everything we see.
We don’t have enough.
We don’t do enough.
We believe the words of fear whispered in the darkness.
Video binges to numb the pain,
Noises to cancel the deafening silence.
Eyes stay fixed on the world’s desires.
Attached,
Fastened,
Absorbed,
Devoted to media & counterfeit reality.
Instant alerts and notifications broadcast to the world,
the moment something happens.
Pictures tagged, informing all that was missed.
Likes,
Requests,
Opinions.
Scroll on.
Friends impatient for an immediate response,
not knowing on the other end
is one on their knees,
unseen,
in tears.
Scroll on.
Next to each other
but
never connecting.
A chasm of communication.
Separated by a world of comparison, and inches of reality.
Guilt settles.
Time wasted stuck in lies more than fastened to THE TRUTH.
Confused,
Misunderstood,
Grasping,
Anxious,
Frozen in fear.
Scroll on.
Until we set it down,
deciding that is no longer the lens through which to see the world.
It is time.
